174/365 Taste of the past
172/365 Recycled Glass
Our local clean community organization has begun offering recycled glass free (limit two 5 gallon buckets) for use as mulch, art projects, or whatever decorative use you can come up with. The product is really interesting to me, but I can't decide what I'd do with it or where I'd put it. Wish I were more creative when it came to things like this.
171/365 Father's Day
V had his fav breakfast at Ace's (steak and eggs) and was given goodies from me and the boys, so he had a good day. We didn't really do anything other than ride around, and on one rural road bearing his grandfather's name we saw this guy.
He brayed and brayed, coming to the fence to see us. V said it was a very appropriate animal for that road.
Since that is his picture and this blog is for mine...
This, along with some other mysterious-to-me machinery, was sitting in a fenced field across from a clay pit. The clay pit had warnings all over it, this side of the road had none. It was odd, and I liked the industrial among the weeds and dirt.

170/365 Leda Turns 5
Actually Leda turns 5 on Tuesday, but today was her party, and Vaughn and I took a ton of pictures. You get the two I like best from my camera.
I love this one, I think partly because Leda doesn't smile that often for the camera. She's very unlike her mother in that way, Amanda was a show off, thrilling in the attention at that age, and for many years after.
I love them happy, I love that I look at this and see Leda at the age I carried Amanda around on my hip. I marvel that Amanda is this grown up woman and that was 25 years ago. It just makes the smile.
Hunter, happy and playing. Before this shot he noticed me and gave me a thumps up, then he grabbed his friend to be a picture. Right after he did both of them looked away at other kids running by.

165/365 Visiting my sister's house
I took stuff that needed to go there, then walked around and saw all the pretty.

Despite the heat index of over 100, and being drenched by the time I was done, I had a good time. She sent me home with cucumbers and tomatoes from her garden so it was a win/win for sure.
If you're wondering about the peas, 10 quart packs are in the freezer. Woot!

164/365 Black-eyed Peas
I woke up and started shelling, ended up cooking those to go with after church lunch, and they were OMG good. Today I was the only one shelling, and also cooking, and doing 5 million other things so I didn't get finished with the bushel. In fact I gave up halfway through the day. The peas are still in great shape so I'm not worried that it will be tomorrow before they are all packaged for the freezer.
163/365 Shelling Peas
Mid-afternoon we stopped by the Bypass Farmer's Market to pick up more corn for Vaughn and Lucian as both are having a love affair with the fresh they currently have in stock. While there we noticed the peas, and having been longing for some good black-eyes we purchased a bushel and came home and got to shelling.
I have to say I remember this going faster in the past. Obviously we are out of practice. And yes, I know it's only a little more to have them shelled for us but then you don't get the snaps, and it's not fresh black-eyed peas without the snaps.
Gus shelled with us the whole time. We watched Honey I Shrunk The Kids, Race to Witch Mountain, and a little of Shrek. Lucian helped at first, then played and watched TV. I was more like him than Gus at that age, that's for sure.

160/365 Another big day!
My first baby lost his first tooth. How did we get here so fast?!
That went under his pillow. Classy, yes? The tooth fairy did her magic and in the morning he woke to find money in the bag in place of the tooth.

153/365 I spent the day indoors
I was horribly sick the night before, and much of the morning. Food poisoning maybe? Anyway, it was bedtime when I realized I hadn't taken a picture all day, so...
She was found in a yard sale freebie box, still dressed and in possession of her feet. Lucian brought her home and promptly put her on my computer desk, and there she has stayed ever since.

152/365 Views
Behind the homes that are across our very short street is a lake, and we get a tiny view of it because our home is higher. Coming out the front door I noticed the crane and did the best I could with the p&s.
Speaking of views, we're going through that thunderstorms daily thing that seems such a part of summer. I'm tired of seeing this.
