Not a lot of sleep was had because this little guy is coughing again, and it's brutal when he's in bed. Hoping tonight is better.
Yes, I messed up the focus again. View On Black and you'll see how badly.

143/365 So strange, and kind of fascinating.
L ran out the door this morning as we were ready to leave and promptly found the body of a snake. He did the right thing even though it didn't have a head, he stopped, backed up, and came and got us. It was the oddest thing, and I don't get why it was in our yard since it didn't appear to be done by an animal. I'll never have the answer. Poor snake.
Edited to add: My sister commented on Flickr and said she thinks it's the tail of a legless lizard (Eastern Glass Lizard??) and not from a snake at all. Apparently they lose their tail when attacked to escape predators. Very cool!

142/365 Colorful Day
We attended the Riverwalk Arts Festival.
And checked on the bluebird nest at my mom's old yet-to-be-sold house.
141/365 Really???
Bumper sticker on the lower right. Just don't get it.

Sorry for pic quality, it has a horrid shot and I had to really mess with the exposure to get it where you could read it.

140/365 Errand Girl
My mom shoved money at me for Arby's and sent me on my way but wouldn't tell me what to get her. I always find this scenario frustrating as there is a fine line to walk. If I get her something she likes but it cost too much she is unhappy. If I get something cheap but it isn't too her liking she is unhappy. I selected the Philly Beef sub for her, which was cheap thanks to it being on special, and she was pleased, so it was a win for me. And believe me, I do realize it's ridiculous I even care since she won't pick something for herself. And yes, I could be stubborn and force her to make a choice but there is drama in that and sometimes I just don't have it in me to deal.
I was going to say this is as exciting as the day got, but early in the evening my niece called to say she was in the hospital with her diabetes. Her numbers had gotten scary high and thank God she went to the ER, where she was admitted. I hope this is the start of some things changing for the better for her. She's not even 30, has wasted down to 111 thanks to this being out of control, and has been experiencing blurry vision and uncontrolled eating and thirst. It worries me so much.

136/365 Deluge
Mom wanted to go to breakfast this morning and I agreed. The weather was ominous but we ignored it, going into the dreaded (dreaded by me, not her. She loves the place.) Cisco's with no umbrellas. The bottom dropped out when it was time to go, and the very short run to the car left the boy's pants wet up to the knees and our heads and shoulders soaked. I stopped before getting on the road and grabbed this shot of Ace's thinking it might do the job of summing up the day.

135/365 A visit to the country
My sister wasn't home, but the boys wanted to go pet the dogs, so off we went to Molino. We were out at the time and I did not bother to go home to get the good camera, though I wish I had. One day I'll learn to just start taking it everywhere.
Soft, soft Gabby
Climbing Rose
Pesky rooster who freaked the boys out by running at and following them around. My sister says he is accustomed to being fed by hand and probably wasn't being aggressive, just needy.

134/365 Fried Mullet
As I've said before I'm not a fan of the Kwik Burger, but today was a yes day when my mom asked me to join her for lunch. I have no clue what the specials were but knew if nothing else I could order a cheeseburger or a grilled cheese. Was pleased to see the mullet on the menu, though I admit feeling some fear as I ordered it, and as the pic shows I opted for non-traditional sides.
This was the best mullet I've had in a long time. It was served up right out of the fryer and I could tell the fish was fresh. So good! I can't say the same for the hushpuppies, they need to be cooked longer for the middle to be done, and they were sweet. The turnips were clearly previously frozen instead of from fresh, but they were edible. The mac/cheese was, too. It's kind of nice to know I can get something from there I really enjoy, but I also know not to count on it being this good next time.

132/365 A/C problems
I alerted V to the new noise coming from the unit outside our bedroom window and now we know that our fan blades are splitting. Can I get a WTF? That's a new one on us. Anyway, V did a quick fix to stop the flapping that occured each time it came on, and that will do until we pick up the replacement blades which are supposed to be in tomorrow. The air is cool, there is no weird noise, so yay for my handy husband!

129/365 Mother's Day
Since the day before had been pretty bad I didn't hold out much hope for this day, but things were really nice! I was served breakfast in bed, given a gift and a card, and we had a nice lunch together with my mom, and later visited V's mom. Somewhere in the middle of it all we went to the Yellow River Marsh Preserve State Park where we chanced upon the sight of a snake catching a frog! That was pretty awesome, but it couldn't top everyone in a good mood just enjoying the day and being together, that was the gift best of all.

128/365 What a day
127/365 I forgot my camera
Me, of all people. I went to Lucian's school for the Mother's Day Tea and walked right in and sat down and was enjoying myself when it hit me, no camera! Then the kids got up and sang a cute song and it was so... cute! And no camera! I'd left my cell phone, too. I cannot believe I did that. *sigh*
So instead of the cute what you get is what my husband had for breakfast. Yuck.

125/365 Diner
My mom loves to eat here and she asks us to go with her a lot. Occasionally we will we say yes but most of the time we politely decline, leaving her unhappy. Today was a yes, and it was an odd time of day when we arrived. As we were getting seated the only other customer left, and once we had our drinks and had placed our order the waitress disappeared into the back, leaving us alone in the space. I couldn't resist and pulled out my point and shoot.

122/365 The Oil Spill
My pic for the day is this as both these things are on my mind.
I love Nashville, have lived there and still have family there, so it makes sense I'd watch with concern. I am saddened by the lives lost, and am amazed at the imagery. Flooded I-24 with the building floating down it hits me like the I-10 bridge picture after Ivan here in Pensacola.
I can't help but wonder what images are to come. The oil spill should be here Tuesday or Wednesday, and everything I've grown up knowing is going to change. Change is part of life on the coast, you can't experience storms and have things stay the same, but this is different. With storms sand stays white, and there is still marine life, and the birds come back, and the beaches rebuild with our help.
We have so much to lose, and Jessie Whittle gave me the great idea to show you some of it. This isn't as well done at hers, but here you go.
Wish us luck in what's ahead.
